After looking at the temperature of this biome, many think that this biome wouldn’t hold plant life, fortunately, it does hold a few plants. Some of these plants in this biome include the Arctic Willow, Caribou Moss, Bearberry, Arctic Moss, Diamond-leaf Willow, Labrador Tea, Tufted Saxifrage, and Pasque Flower. The Arctic Willow is also known as Rock Willow. This plant is known to be found in the North American tundra area. This plant along with others on this list has adapted to the cold environment of the tundra which enables it to survive. This plant is about 15 to 20 centimeters in height. The leaves of this plant are oval and have a pointed tip. These leaves can grow up to be 50 mm. The color of these leaves is light green on top and dark green on the bottom. Another name for Caribou Moss is Reindeer Lichen. This plant grows on rocks and is a foamy, grayish-green spongy matter. This plant can grow to be about 4 inches high. The stems of this plant are hollow and branches outward. The Caribou Moss is composed of two different organisms. These organisms include the fungi and algae. This lichen is rich in vitamins B and A. If is said that Native Americans that lived in this area used this plant for food and medication. Another name for Bearberry is Foxberry. This stem of this plant can rise up to 8 inches from the ground. This plant contains a thick bark and silky hairs. This plant is one of the few that flowers. The flowers of this plant can be either white or light pink with five petals. These flowers bloom anywhere from Spring to Summer. The name of this plant comes from the animal that feeds on it which is the bear. The Diamond-leaf Willow has two names. These names include the Sura and the Willow. This plant has thin branches and twigs that can easily bend. This plant has the capability of growing to be 30 feet high but unfortunately grows a few inches off the ground in the Tundra. The Willow can be used to make baskets since they are easily bent. The Labrador Tea has multiple names which include St. Jame's Tea, Marsh Tea, Swamp Tea, and Hudson's Bay Tea. This plant can grow to be 4 to 5 feet off the ground. This plant has fuzzy branches and narrow leaves that can be about 1 to 2 inches. The leaves of this plant were brewed by Native Americans in the area for tea. The Tufted Saxifrage are small flowers that get to the height of about 3 to 15 centimeters. About 2 to 10 flowers bloom from each stem. The flowers have about 5 petals that are white. This plant also has tiny fruits that can hold seeds. The last plant on this list is the Pasque Flower. Another name for this flower is the Anemone. This plant contains several stems that rise up to 8 inches. There are about 5 to 8 petals on each flower. The color of this flower can range from white to dark lavender. This plant can help cure cataracts which are a disease.
